This is a revised version of Folic
acid - one of life’s essentials,
February 2006. |
Description:
This leaflet explains what folic acid is and how it can help
to protect the unborn child against conditions such as spina
bifida. This is one of the neural tube defects (NTDs) that
can occur when the baby's spine or brain do not develop in
the normal way. The leaflet explains who is at risk from
having a baby with a NTD, how to get the right amount of
folic acid and when they should start taking extra folic
acid. This revised version includes new information on the amount of folic acid needed by certain women.
