Description:
Investing for
health presents a cross-departmental, multi-sectoral framework
for action to improve health and wellbeing in Northern Ireland
by setting out how the Northern Ireland Executive plans to
achieve its aim 'to work for a healthier people' - one of
its overarching priorities.
The strategy
recognises the important contribution to be made by members
of statutory and non-statutory groups, community and voluntary
groups as well as all Departments, who through their involvement
in the Ministerial Group on Public Health (MGPH) were responsible
for its development.
Investing
for health identifies the principles and values that should
guide future action to improve health and highlights the cost
of poor health to the individual, families and to the economy.
The strategy aims to address a broad range of economic, social
and environmental issues, all of which are recognised as major
determinants of health and wellbeing. It also outlines the
commitment of the Northern Ireland Executive to ensuring equality
of opportunity and tackling social disadvantage within our
community.
