Evaluation of phase one of depression awareness training for general practice
Published:
HPA, February 2008 |
Description:
In 2006, the HPA, in partnership with key representatives from Health and Social Services Boards, primary care, public health and the voluntary sector, developed a training programme for GPs on depression awareness.
The programme, which was organised in each board area, included a half-day training session and was supported by supplementary literature and an interactive CD ROM.
This report is a summary of key findings from the first phase of the training programme, which was rolled out in early 2007 by facilitators nominated by the steering group. The facilitators represented a range of backgrounds, including general practice, community psychiatric nursing, mental health promotion, psychology, suicide awareness and the voluntary organisation Aware Defeat Depression.
