Agency launches
new training prospectus
The Health Promotion
Agency for Northern Ireland has just launched its new training
prospectus for September-December
2001.
The brochure
details a wide range of short courses and seminars that will
appeal to many health professionals. Mire Campbell, Training
and Professional Development Manager for the Health Promotion
Agency, said: "The topics included in this brochure reflect
the key priority areas to support government policy including,
drugs, physical activity, men's health, mental health, obesity
and smoking.
"The seminars
will be drawing on the expertise of local, national and international
speakers. Later this year I am delighted that the Smoking
Cessation seminar will feature Dr Chris Steele from the very
popular 'This Morning' television show. Dr Steele has pioneered
a number of successful techniques to help clients stop smoking
and it promises to be a very informative event for professionals
involved in this field of work'.
Last year 345
participants were trained in a range of courses relating to
health promotion and once more all courses were well subscribed
with positive evaluations continuing to provide supportive
evidence of the need to continue this valuable work.
Recently the
Agency undertook an evaluation of the GP Training Programme:
'Promoting health in primary care'. This programme was designed
in response to a specified need for health promotion training
amongst GPs and the primary care sector. The evaluation from
this programme showed that there is a real need for a more
coordinated approach to health promotion training amongst
GP training providers as well as highlighting the need for
additional training in this area for these professionals.
Many of the courses
and seminars in this latest brochure will provide knowledge
and skills to health professionals working to promote health
in primary care and other sectors. All
courses and seminars will assist with portfolio building towards
Postgraduate Education Allowance (PGEA) accreditation and
Post Registration Education in Practice (PREP).
All of the courses
and seminars have been subsidised and are located at different
venues throughout Northern Ireland to ensure greater accessibility.
The prospectus, Eduation
and skills for promoting health, is available now
from this website.
