Health Promotion Agency welcomes consultation on draft smoking legislation
Dr Brian Gaffney, Chief Executive of the Health Promotion Agency for Northern Ireland (HPA) today welcomed the release of the consultation on the Draft Smoking (NI) Order.
Dr Gaffney said: “With No Smoking Day just two days away this is a very timely announcement. Bringing in smokefree workplaces would be one of the best ways to tackle ill health here and we are advocating a completely smokefree Northern Ireland with no exemptions to the legislation. Everyone has the right to be protected from exposure to the deadly effects of second-hand smoke.
“Over the next eight weeks, during the consultation period, we would encourage the public to respond to the consultation and continue to support a smokefree Northern Ireland as they did in March last year when 91% of respondents supported the smokefree option in the government consultation.”
