Involves: This group involves:-
-Countryside Access and Activities Network (CAAN)
-Department for Regional Development (DRD, Roads Service)
-Department of Agriculture and Rural Development
(DARD, Forest Service)
-Department of the Environment
(DOE, Planning Service, Environment and Heritage)
-Health Promotion Agency (HPA)
-Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB).
Aim: To assist in the development of a Northern Ireland Walking Strategy as outlined in the Northern Ireland Transport Policy Statement, Moving Forward.
Work: This Group is facilitated by the Department for Regional Development, Transportation Unit and is chaired by Denis O'Hagan, Chief Executive of the Transportation Unit. The group is currently working on the development of the Northern Ireland Walking Strategy. The HPA provides expertise on health and physical activity issues to this group as well as policy advice on the Northern Ireland Physical activity strategy's activities.
