Work:

The Department for Regional Development, Roads Service (Transportation Unit), facilitates the Northern Ireland school travel advisory group (STAG). Its main priority at present is to assist in taking forward a Safer Routes to Schools experimental programme. This initiative was developed to help tackle the issue of the 'school run' with the aim of encouraging more children to walk, cycle and use public transport to get to school. The HPA provides expertise on health and physical activity issues to this group as well as policy advice on the Northern Ireland Physical activity strategy's activities.
