Mission: To make health a top priority for everyone in Northern Ireland.

In Northern Ireland there is growing concern about the sexual health of young people. As risk-related sexual behaviour begins in adolescence (Hein, 1989), those who engage earlier are thought to be at greater risk of unprotected sex, unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The HPA is committed to promoting good sexual health by ensuring that professionals and the public have access to information relating to this area.
Work includes :

• part funding for a Sexual Health Information service for Northern Ireland, managed by fpa Northern Ireland
• contribution to the development of Teenage pregnancy and parenthood. Strategy and action plan 2002–2007
• contribution to a working group that will develop a sexual health strategy in Northern Ireland;
• a regional convenience advertising campaign in pubs and clubs targeted at 18–30 year-olds.
