Agency nets
the facts on drugs prevention
The
first regional comprehensive website addressing all issues
relating to drug misuse and prevention was launched today
at the Health Promotion Agency by the Northern Ireland Drug
and Alcohol Strategy Coordinator, Jo Daykin.
The
website, www.drugsalcohol.info,
has been designed to provide all those working in the field
of drug misuse with the latest accurate and detailed information.
Speaking at the event Jo Daykin said: "I am pleased to be
launching this website which has been created by the Agency
as part of the Northern Ireland Drugs and Alcohol Campaign.
The site is a one-stop shop that contains a wealth of detailed
information which can be accessed by all those who have an
interest in the drugs situation here, including students,
professionals and the media."
Information
for the website has been provided by a wide range of organisations
in Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Republic of Ireland
and Europe. Rob Phipps, Senior Health Promotion Manager for
the Health Promotion Agency, said: "The intention is that
the website will support individuals, organisations and agencies
working in the area of drug prevention, treatment and education
throughout Northern Ireland. They will be able to access all
the latest information, such as, surveys, reports, initiatives,
information about the latest drugs and new approaches to prevention.
"Visitors
to the site will find the latest statistics on drugs misuse,
theories on why people take drugs, the efforts being made
to tackle drug misuse as well as information about drugs and
the law in Northern Ireland. It will also provide the opportunity
for organisations to highlight forthcoming training events
including short courses, seminars and conferences in relation
to drugs."
The
website is largely based on the publication, Illicit
drug use in Northern Ireland: A handbook for professionals,
developed by the Health Promotion Agency.
