Good
nutrition plays a vital role in promoting and protecting health.
It helps prevent heart disease and some cancers as well as
other health problems common in Northern Ireland, such as
obesity and oral disease. The overall aim of the Health Promotion
Agency's nutrition programme is to contribute to the development
of environments that enable the people of Northern Ireland
to make healthier food choices through improved public awareness,
easier accessibility and increased availability and affordability
of healthy food choices.
This will be
achieved through work in the Agency's four business areas:
- policy development
and advice;
- research and
evaluation;
- public and
professional information;
- training and
professional development.
