This booklet explains the different stages of stopping smoking, beginning with making up your mind to stop, preparing to stop, stopping smoking and how to stay stopped. It provides answers to some of the most common questions asked by smokers about stopping and provides information on Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) as well as non-nicotine treatments and other sources of help.

This booklet was produced as part of the HPA's public information campaign on smoking using text adapted from 'Smoking: giving up for life' with permission from the Department of Health. It was distributed to members of the public via a freephone helpline, which was set up as part of the campaign. It is also available from Central Health Promotion Resource Services.
