Title:
Well into 2000. A positive agenda for health and wellbeing.
Published:
Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), December, 1997.

Description:
This document sets out the Labour Government's vision for improving health and wellbeing in Northern Ireland, founded on their Manifesto commitments. It offers:

  • integrated action for health across all public agencies;
  • better information about what influences health and wellbeing;
  • health promoting services, not simply healing services;
  • fairness and participation, not inequality and exclusion;
    and an efficient, modern service, not wasteful and bureaucratic.

Its broad goals include:

  • tackling social exclusion;
  • incorporating principles of social justice in all policies and strategies for health and wellbeing;
  • tackling inequalities in health and wellbeing;
  • redirecting public policies towards the promotion of good health and wellbeing;
  • creating environments which will help people to maintain good health and wellbeing;
  • providing and maintaining a structure for the organisation of the HPSS which both promotes health and wellbeing and delivers the best possible services where and when they are needed.

It also lists the Government's priorities for the next two years.
