Description:
This discussion document seeks to examines how the cross-cutting theme of sustainable development can be integrated into the objectives and policies set out in the Executive's Programme for Government.

The work of local councils under the Local Agenda 21 programme established at Rio and the Local Strategy Partnerships being set up to undertake integrated development planning under the EU Peace II Programme, is particularly highlighted as a potential model for the delivery of sustainable development.
