This publication has been produced to support the Northern Ireland physical activity strategy action plan, which outlines a range of activities which will be implemented by organisations to help meet the physical activity targets set in the Regional strategy for health and social wellbeing 1997-2002.
Local research is essential to support organisations in the design and implementation of suitable initiatives and programmes. This document provides a summary of the main findings of physical activity research undertaken by the HPA over the last three years.

In 1994 the HPA facilitated the development of the Northern Ireland physical activity strategy which was published in March 1996. The strategy has been endorsed by 70 organisations representing Government departments, education, local councils, health, and the community and voluntary sectors.
