BCG immunisation for ages 10 to 14

Published:
HPA, August 2004
Description:
This leaflet explains what BCG is and why it is important in protecting against tuberculosis. It provides information on what tuberculosis is and how it is spread and when the vaccine is given. It also explains how the tuberculin/heaf test determines who needs to be immunised and what happens after immunisation. This leaflet has been withdrawn to support a change to the routine childhood immunisation programme, which no longer includes BCG vaccine against tuberculosis for 10 to 14 year olds. This will be replaced by a new vaccination programme targeted at ‘neonatal and others at risk’.
