Description:
This document provides straightforward, practical advice and information on a range of nutrition related issues and in particular advice on how to ensure a healthy diet is provided for babies and children in childcare. It also provides guidance for Early Years Teams in their assessment of childcare facilities. The original version has been revised to make it appropriate for childminders as well as nurseries and playgroups. It has also been updated to incorporate the latest DHSSPS guidelines on weaning.

Additional information:
This document was revised in consultation with the original inter-agency working group and the Northern Ireland Childminding Association (NICMA). It is being distributed initially via a series of training seminars designed to assist childcare providers in implementing the guidance provided in the document. These seminars will begin in the Western Health and Social Services Board area in April 2006 and will continue in the other Boards in due course. Following the completion of the seminar series, the document will be distributed to all remaining childcare providers, including nursery and playgroup staff, and registered childminders.
