Public attitudes, perceptions and understanding of
mental health in Northern Ireland
HPA, March 2007
This quantitative research report examines attitudes to mental health among the Northern Ireland public. The study focuses on the public’s knowledge and experience of mental health conditions, and highlights the level of stigma that still prevails. The report also investigates public awareness of issues such as treatment and recovery, using case studies of patients with mental health problems as points of reference.
Results from the study will help to direct a public information campaign on mental health literacy in 2007.
