Breast screening: What to expect at your second visit

Published:
HPA, February 2007, on behalf of the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS). This is a reprint of Breast screening: What to expect at your second visit, March 2006.
Description:
This leaflet is used to support the Northern Ireland breast screening programme. It is issued by local screening centres with a letter after a woman’s breast x-ray (mammogram) has shown a possible abnormality in her breast. It describes the additional tests that may be offered at a breast assessment clinic, which is a continuation of the screening system. It also gives contact details for breast screening centres and provides space for each centre to write in the telephone number of the local breast care nurse who will discuss any concerns or queries. The leaflet gives reassuring statistics of how four out of five women called to attend the breast assessment clinic are given normal results after these additional tests.
This reprint includes additional details about a Northern Ireland cancer screening website resource.
