Breast awareness: Looking out for changes
Published:
HPA, March 2005, on behalf of the Department of Health, Social
Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS). This is a reprint
of Breast awareness: Looking out for changes, February
2003. |
Description:
This leaflet is primarily used to support the Northern Ireland
breast screening programme. It is issued by local screening
centres with a letter after a woman’s breast x-ray (mammogram)
has detected no signs of breast cancer. It describes how women
should be aware of what is normal for them and how they should
check their breasts regularly for any changes that are new
to them. It highlights possible changes that should be checked
immediately by a GP. It also emphasizes the importance of accepting
a screening invitation every three years between the ages of
50 and 64 and explains how to arrange an appointment if aged
65 or over. The leaflet is also available more widely to all
women through GP surgeries and health promotion outlets to
remind them of the importance of being breast aware. |
