Breast screening: why have I been called back?

Published:
HPA and the Quality Assurance Reference Centre on behalf of the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS), January 2009. This is a revised version of Breast screening: What to expect at your second visit, November 2007.
Description:
This leaflet is used to support the Northern Ireland breast screening programme. It is issued by local screening centres with a letter after a woman’s breast x-ray (mammogram) has shown a possible abnormality in her breast. It describes the additional tests that may be offered at a breast assessment clinic. It also gives contact details for breast screening centres and provides information on how to contact the local breast care nurse who will discuss any concerns or queries. The leaflet gives reassuring statistics of how four out of five women called to attend the breast assessment clinic are given normal results after these additional tests. It includes details about the Northern Ireland cancer screening website.
