Title:
Protect antibiotics so they can protect you. |
Published:
HPA, March 2004. |
Description:
This leaflet was developed by the HPA on behalf of the DHSSPS
to support a public information campaign as part of the Antimicrobial
Resistance Action Plan (AMRAP). One of the six priority action
areas addressed in AMRAP is prudent antimicrobial use in humans
in the community, and this leaflet aims to promote that message.
It emphasises that the continuing overuse of antibiotics has
led to them becoming less effective at fighting infections;
that antibiotics don’t cure infections caused by viruses,
like the flu and the common cold, but are needed to help fight
serious infections caused by bacteria, such as pneumonia and
blood poisoning; and that careful use of antibiotics helps
them to remain as powerful as possible. |
