Description:
This publication
aims to provide valuable information for professional workers
in the statutory and voluntary sectors and to give pointers
to the action that they may take in tackling the serious problem
of volatile substance abuse (VSA). It
brings together information about VSA, explaining what it
is, why young people do it, how it compares to drug misuse
and the extent of the problem in Northern Ireland. It also
lists some of the products that are misused, their short and
long-term effects and how to recognise the signs of VSA. An
outline of the law relating to VSA is included together with
information on the different roles and responsibilities of
professionals who work with young people in this field.
