Description:
Investing for Health (IfH) is the cross-departmental public health strategy, published in 2002. It focuses on tackling the wide range of complex and inter-related factors that can impact on the health of the population.
IfH is built around two overarching goals, which had been identified in pursuit of the aims of improving health and reducing health inequalities, and seven objectives. The goals will be achieved through progress on all of the other objectives and their related targets. These had been selected to reflect the cross-cutting nature of the strategy.
This year’s update has been structured around the goals, objectives and targets, and where there are data available to provide an update on progress, these have been provided. In some instances, government departments and IfH partnerships are now working to updated targets. These are identified where appropriate. There is a very broad range of successful activity being undertaken at both regional and local levels that will contribute to the achievement of IfH.
This update report only serves to provide an overview of that activity. Each section of the update is built around an IfH goal or objective and contains:
- information on progress, where this is available;
- an outline of activity/initiatives at regional or government level;
- examples of activities at local level.
In addition, information is included on work to take forward the settings approach to health improvement, and on north-south engagement through the contribution of the Institute of Public Health in Ireland.
