Health and Criminal Justice conference

Published:
HPA, Northern Ireland Prison Service and South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust, March 2009

Description:
This report is a record of proceedings of the Health and Criminal Justice conference, 'Responding to learning disability, addressing addiction and improving mental health among offenders', which took place in Cookstown in September 2008.

The conference brought together the organisations that contribute to offender health and wellbeing, to raise awareness of offender health issues and identify how to improve outcomes. It also provided an opportunity for the Prison Reform Trust to launch its report on views of Northern Ireland prison staff on how prisoners with learning difficulties and learning disabilities are identified and supported.

The report outlines the objectives of the conference and includes the presentations from the five key speakers, as well as abstracts from the parallel sessions. It also gives the key messages that emerged from the feedback of the group discussions.
